All'orizzonte una striscia di arancione inizia a rischiare la notte appena conclusa. L'aria é fresca, frizzante; la natura inizia a risvegliarsi. La luce aumenta, finalmente si intravedono le Merinos. Placide si svegliano e riprendono a brucare con la loro caratteristica tranquillità. Così calme e indisturbate sembra che possano trasferire la pace che le circonda alla fibra che producono, la lana neozelandese.

Si tratta di un'organizzazione non governativa il cui scopo é quello di promuovere la lana locale e di aiutare gli allevatori ad ottenere un prezzo più equo e costante per la lana che producono.
La stabilità del prezzo di vendita é fondamentale per poter programmare investimenti a medio e lungo termine. Un adeguamento continuo del sistema produttivo é determinante quando si vuole mantenere fiorente e competitiva un'industria.
Per cercare di ottenere questa stabilità é necessario vendere qualcosa che non sia solo lana. Per questo la NZM si impegna a sensibilizzare gli allevatori in modo che producano lana con particolari caratteristiche fisico chimiche. Una fibra resistente e pulita causa molti meno problemi nelle lavorazioni successive. Inoltre, si impegnano a incoraggiare pratiche che tendono a migliorare la vita dell'animale e a ridurre l'impatto ambientale degli allevamenti. Ad esempio é disincentivata la pratica del mulesing e sono richieste analisi costanti delle acque che potrebbero venire contaminate dall'attività di allevamento. Tutto questo é fatto con l'idea di arrivare a produrre la lana migliore al mondo, che possa soddisfare i clienti più esigenti.
A questo scopo la NZM dispone di vari centri di raccolta per la lana prodotta. Qui la lana viene analizzata in modo da individuare le caratteristiche di ogni singolo lotto.
Le analisi sono utilizzate per produrre un catalogo contenente tutte le informazioni riguardanti la lana. Questo aiuterà i brooker a valutare il valore della lana e a fare l'offerta più adeguata durante l'asta.

It is the end of a long night. The first ray of sun jumps off from the mountains and it begins to light up the landscape. The air is cold and sparkling. The nature is waking up. The Merinos are gently eating the grass. They looks so calm that it seems that they can transfer their own inner peace to the fiber that produce; the New Zealand wool.

The NZM is a no governative organization, who aims do promote the local wool, in order to obtain a fairer and more stable sales price.
This is very important for the farmers because it allows them to plan the future investment at medium and long term. A continuous improvement of the production systems is fundamental to maintain an industry competitive and full operating.
In order to sell the wool not like all the others commodity, it is necessary to improve the inner value of the product. That's why NZM encourages the farmers to produce wool that has specific physical and chemical properties. A fiber with good mechanical characteristics and cleaner causes less problems during the following operations and it allows to optimize all the process. Moreover, NZM promotes a more ethical and sustainable way of farming. For example they disincentive the practice of mulesing. To check the technical properties of the wool, th NZM has several "wool store" around New Zealand. In these facilities the wool is stored and analyzed. With the result of the analysis it is possible to produce a catalog with all the fundamental characteristics of the wool, divided in different lots of production. This book is used by the brokers during the auction to offer the best price for a specific lots.
