Il cotone che conquista
Per un momento lasciamo in disparte il mondo della lana ed entriamo in quello del cotone.
Il cotone è la prima fibra naturale utilizzata al mondo. Viene differenziato in base alla zona di provenienza; tra i principali tipi di cotone ricordiamo Sea Island, Giza 45 e Giza 87. Il cotone delle Sea Island è una delle varietà più antiche e preziose al mondo e la caratteristica peculiare della sua fibra è data dalla notevole lunghezza sommata all’alta percentuale di uniformità. Un'altra tipologia di cotone è quella del Giza 45, che viene considerata “la regina” tra le specie di cotone egiziane. Nel 1820 venne impiantato per la prima volta grazie a Mohammed Alì Pascià, fondatore dell’Egitto moderno. Mohammed infatti importò semi di cotone Sea Island e brasiliani, entusiasta delle stupende stoffe prodotte all’estero con queste materie prime. Infine la brillantezza del Giza 87 è tra le maggiori tra gli Extra Long Staple egiziani e garantisce una particolare luminosità al tessuto capace di rendere il bianco particolarmente brillante.
È stato possibile approfondire tutto ciò grazie ad una visita presso il Cotonificio Albini, azienda leader nel settore cotoniero. Il Gruppo Albini, composto da “Cotonificio Albini”, “Thomas Mason”, “David and John Anderson”, “Albiate” e “Ashton Shirtings”, ha sede ad Albino (Bergamo), dove avviene la tintura del filato, l'orditura e la tessitura, con tutte le fasi ad essa correlate, degli articoli più complessi, nel rispetto di tempi di consegna sempre più brevi. Recentemente nuovi ed ingenti investimenti hanno consentito un radicale rinnovamento delle strutture e dei macchinari, nel rispetto degli standard qualitativi più elevati. Grazie a macchinari altamente tecnologici e innovativi, questa realtà risulta essere unica nel panorama tessile della camiceria.

The Sea Island Cotton is one of the most ancient and precious varieties in the world and it has the peculiar characteristic of its fibre is given by the considerable length added to the high percentage of uniformity. Another type of cotton is the Giza 45, which is considered the "queen" among the species of Egyptian cotton. In 1820 it was implanted for the first time thanks to Mohammed Ali Pasha, the founder of modern Egypt. In the end, the brilliance of the Giza 87 is the highest among the Extra Long Staple Egyptian and it guarantees a special brightness to the fabric that makes particularly brilliant white.
